Our training can be divided into 3 components:
The 3 components are:
1. The Mind
2. The Body
3. The Voice
1. The Mind:
Meditation and Yoga Philosophy
Meditation and Yoga Philosophy will be the topic of the first meeting. This subject will be taught throughout the entire training.
Early in the training we will give meditation instruction. The students personal meditation is a major part of our program and serves as a reference for the material we will be covering. A personal mediation practice is essential. The material we cover will not make sense without it.
Students will be guided through the first chapter of a yoga text called The Yoga Sutra. Moving through this first chapter is key to the students relationship with meditation. This material requires self reflection and self examination in order to relate to it fully.
It is typical for some programs to compress a philosophical component into a weekend or a few weekends. It has been our experience that students learn better when this subject is approached gradually over a longer period. This component will last through the entire training.
2. The Body:
Anatomy, Asana, Energetics, Sequencing, Ayurveda, Breathing techniques, Kriyas (cleansing practices)
A large part of this component will be anatomy. Students will take a very in depth look into many essential and special yoga postures. Students will learn common mistakes and will be able to relate those mistakes to the anatomy. Students will learn how to safely perform each asana and how to safely guide students in and out of the yoga postures.
Energetics and sequencing will follow anatomy. Students will learn the energetic effects of each posture. We will learn how to enhance or mitigate these effects depending on the teachers intent. Students will learn the art of class design and construction. Students will learn how to safely construct and design a class that has a specific intent, effect and purpose.
breathing techniques and other special physical exercises and cleansing techniques (kriyas) are also included in this component.
Ayurveda will be another topic we cover. Ayurveda is said to be the sister science of yoga and is a system of medicine and healthy living. Students will be guided in recognizing key Ayurveda principles in their personal life and their personal yoga practice. Students will also learn to integrate key ayurveda principles in their class construction and design.
3. The Voice:
Confidence in expression is essential to yoga. Students will guided through practice teaching and developing confidence at regular intervals through out the training.
